The Dudok Quartet Amsterdam

Wednesday 2 March 2022

This event has passed.

The Dudok Quartet Amsterdam is forging a reputation as one of the most creative and versatile young quartets of its generation, crafting unique and eclectic programmes in order to engage with its audiences in new and imaginative ways.

In repertoire ranging from Ligeti, Shostakovich and Weinberg through to Mendelssohn, Mozart and Beethoven, the Dudok Quartet constantly strives to explore new pathways and forge connections in music. Their intelligent approach and flair for programming sees them regularly performing their own arrangements.

Following performances at major European venues and festivals including the Vienna Konzerthaus, Wigmore Hall, Beethovenhaus Bonn, and the Amsterdam String Quartet Biennale, we can’t wait to welcome them to the Howard Assembly Room for the first time with their arrangement of the Overture from Glinka’s Ruslan & Ludmilla, Tchaikovsky’s Third String Quartet, and Shostakovich’s Fifth String Quartet. Written in the months before Stalin’s death, this pivotal work was not performed until the ‘thaw’ of the following year, as the draconian restrictions placed on artists by the regime had begun to relax.

Judith van Driel – violin
Marleen Wester – violin
Marie-Louise de Jong – viola
David Faber – cello
