Nouvelle Vague: A Date with Depeche Mode
Book NowNouvelle Vague – a French musical project founded in 2003 by Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux, return to the UK to perform music from their latest album, A Date with Depeche Mode.
The group are known for filtering classic post-punk and new wave songs through the relaxed, acoustic style of bossa nova – a genre of Brazilian music that blends samba rhythms with cool jazz. For this specific project, they have recorded entirely in Rio de Janeiro with Brazilian musicians, dedicating the whole performance to reinterpreting thirteen iconic songs by Depeche Mode.
By stripping away the heavy synthesisers of the original electronic tracks and replacing them with acoustic instruments, gentle rhythms, and new guest vocalists – including Skye Edwards from Morcheeba and Larry Love from Alabama 3, the project creates a quiet, conversational dialogue between British synth-pop history and traditional Brazilian musical styles.
