Penguin Cafe
Contemporary classical
This event has passed.
Making a welcome return to the Howard Assembly Room this autumn, Penguin Cafe bring the music of the legendary Penguin Cafe Orchestra back to life.
Founded in the 1970s by English guitarist Simon Jeffes, Penguin Cafe Orchestra was born from his desire to create an ‘imaginary folklore’ from his own eclectic tastes. In 2009, Jeffes’ son Arthur founded Penguin Cafe to continue his father’s project.
The evening will see the band playing a collection of Penguin Cafe Orchestra classics, celebrating the unique sound that has captivated audiences worldwide with its blend of folk music and minimalism.
To coincide with this tour, six original Penguin Café Orchestra albums have been re-released on vinyl for the first time since their initial pressings, courtesy of [INTEGRAL]/Universal Music Recordings, and will be available to buy at the gig.
