Richard Dawson
This event has passed.
The black-humoured bard of Newcastle is back! Part savant-genius, part court jester, with a knack for echoing voices of the past, present and future…
On his 6th solo album, 2020, Dawson laid bare England today, tumultuous and in a state of flux. Although nuanced and challenging, the songs also feature some of the musician’s most melodic moments to date. His musical trademarks are in place – unexpected time signatures, strange flourishes and welcome digressions – but corralled to create a highly focused collection.
Opening the show, Yakka Doon bring stripped-back folk magnificence from the North East, with singer-songwriter Claire Welford joined by Newcastle luminary Phil Tyler on violin, banjo and vocals.
“Dawson rewards you generously, with kitchen-sink realism, a psychedelic take on fable, and an almost pugilistic sense of compassion”
– The Observer
“At times deeply, painfully intimate, but also witty, bawdy, surreal, disquieting, nostalgic, brash and fearlessly individual”
– The Quietus
