Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade

Kirklees Orchestral Series

Sunday 25 February 2024

This event has passed.

Led by Opera North’s effervescent Principal Guest Conductor Antony Hermus, this concert is packed with energy from the first to the final note.

South Korean-born composer Unsuk Chin’s concert opener sets the tone – its title translating as ‘suddenly, with power’! – before award-winning pianist Steven Osborne returns to the Kirklees Concert Season in Ravel’s gorgeous Piano Concerto in G major.

Head on a seafaring adventure with Rimsky-Korsakov’s exhilarating Scheherazade. Inspired by the composer’s early life as a sailor and based on the collection of Middle Eastern fairy tales The Thousand and One Nights, listen out for the crashing waves in the strings and the gritty theme in the lower brass representing the fearsome Sultan.

Part of the Kirklees Concert Season.
