माया (Māyā)

Rushil Ranjan, Abi Sampa & Manchester Camerata

Saturday 2 November 2024

This event has passed.

Critically acclaimed composer, Rushil Ranjan partners with veena and vocal virtuoso, Abi Sampa and the pioneering Manchester Camerata for an orchestral exploration of Carnatic Music.

Carnatic music is widely considered to be one of the most ancient forms of music from the Indian subcontinent. With roots that lie in deeply spiritual and vedic traditions it incorporates mathematical, rhythmic complexity and raga to beautifully illustrate tales from Hindu mythology.

Renowned for their success in the Orchestral Qawwali Project, Ranjan and Sampa now bring their unique and emotionally evocative approach to fusion to this ancient and spiritual artform. This rich evening of music is newly commissioned by Manchester Camerata, and comes straight from its premiere at WOMEX.

Presented in partnership with LICS and SAA-uk.
