Brass Academy

11 - 12 April 2022

This event has passed.

The Opera North Brass Academy is a two-day intensive programme for young brass players to work alongside and learn from specialists from Opera North’s Education department and the professional players of the Orchestra of Opera North.

The Academy will focus on ensemble playing and developing and improving the skills used to play in different sized ensembles and the special relationships between brass instruments. Carefully chosen repertoire will allow participants to look closely at what makes a great brass ensemble and focus on developing specific playing techniques. In addition to repertoire rehearsals, players will participate in intuitive music workshops as well as performance and technique masterclasses which give the opportunity for peer and professional feedback.

Each day players will:

• Explore brass repertoire with the professional players and education specialists of Opera North
• Participate in sectional and tutti rehearsals
• Learn, experiment, and develop ensemble communication through intuitive music workshops
• Participate in instrument-based masterclasses and technique workshops
• Play side-by-side with the professional musicians and tutors of Opera North
• Meet new people and make new friends

We welcome school aged Brass players Grade 3+.

Participants will be placed into groups according to ability and study level so each participant is appropriately challenged. Opera North continues to maintain certain measures to ensure all musicians and staff are safe. Read our Covid Safety Measures.
