Brass Academy

15–18 Feb 2021

This event has been postponed.

The Opera North Brass Academy is four-day intensive programme brass for young brass players to work alongside and learn from brass players from the Orchestra of Opera North as well as specialist brass tutors from Opera North’s Education Department.

Please note booking has been temporarily paused for this event.

The Academy will focus on ensemble playing and developing and improving the skills used play in different sized ensembles and the special relationships between brass instruments. Participants will be part of two ensembles – a large brass ensemble, and a smaller ensemble such as a quartet or trio. Carefully chosen repertoire will allow participants to look closely at what makes a great brass ensemble and focus on developing specific brass techniques. In addition to repertoire rehearsals, players will participate in creative composition workshops as well as masterclasses led by Orchestral musicians which give the opportunity for peer and professional feedback.

Participants will be placed into a group of no more than 15 young musicians and accompanying professionals with whom they will remain for all sessions. Read our COVID Safety Measures.
