Opera North Music Makers is a weekly musicianship and singing programme for children aged 7–9, designed to inspire a lifelong love of music while developing the skills needed to become confident young musicians.

Through fun, engaging sessions led by experienced music practitioners, children explore singing, rhymes, movement and musicianship in a creative and supportive environment. As well as building strong musical foundations, participants develop confidence, teamwork and listening skills while making new friends through shared music-making.

Music Makers is the perfect starting point for children who enjoy singing and are interested in progressing to the Opera North Children’s Chorus. The programme provides a strong grounding in musicianship and choral singing, helping children prepare for the next stage of their musical journey. It is equally suitable for children who simply want to enjoy making music together, with no previous musical experience required.

Weekly sessions include songs and rhymes, musical games, aural training, notation reading and creative activities, giving children the opportunity to develop their musical literacy skills in an enjoyable and encouraging setting.
