Creative Arts Camp

Spend a week discovering the different elements that make up the magic of opera and theatre.

In the beautiful setting of Herd Farm in Eccup, North Leeds, participants will explore directing, designing, writing and composing, all based around the opera Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck.

Devised by professional artists from the world of opera and led by tutors from Opera North’s award-winning In Harmony programme, these workshops will be full of music, magic and fun. Participants will also get to experience a very special socially-distanced pop-up performance of Hansel and Gretel, performed by singers and musicians from Opera North.

All activities will be designed specifically for Covid-safe learning according to the latest government advice, and will make full use of Herd Farm’s beautiful 16-acre property.

We welcome all young people aged 8-11 who love being creative and have an interest in music, drama or art. No experience or musical ability is necessary. Please note places are strictly limited in accordance with government guidance.

  • Set and costume design and making
  • Directing and acting
  • Script-writing
  • Choreography and dance
  • Composition
  • Hansel and Gretel Scavenger Hunt, games, challenges and more!

How to book
Booking is now closed. If you have already booked a place on the Opera North Creative Camp you will be sent full details about the week and an online registration form to complete.

Daily sessions run 9.30am – 3.30pm
Drop off times:
Will be allocated per bubble between 8.55am – 9.20am
Pick up times:
Will be allocated per bubble between 3.45pm – 4.05pm

Drop off times need to be strict in accordance with the guidelines that will help us run the camp safely for all involved. Drop off times will be allocated per bubble between 8.55am – 9.20am and pick up times will be allocated per bubble between 3.45pm – 4.05pm. Please get in touch if you need to work around specific times. 

We want to ensure that costs do not create a barrier to taking part and are able to offer financial assistance to those who wouldn’t be able to join without support. Please get in touch to see if you are eligible for a bursary place. 

No, a packed lunch will need to be brought each day. Details will be shared about this once registration is complete.
