This event has passed.

Join us for a showcase of performers supported through Opera North’s annual Resonance programme, hosted by the irrepressible Testament.

Each will perform a 20-minute taster set of their latest work, taking in jazz, afro-futurism, rap, beatboxing, folk and Bollywood.

Tala Tarang brings together harpist Eleanor Turner and tabla player/percussionist Mendi Singh to create a sound world synthesising folk, pop, Bollywood and classical.

Singer Nishla Smith and pianist Tom Harris’ new concert programme ‘Moments’ tells a three-part story, with the audience tumbled down a well, sent soaring on the wings of a lark, and alight at last in a frosty garden at dawn. Original songs are woven together with snatches of poetry and musical interludes, to form these delicate, melancholy musical moments.

“Her voice is exquisite, a symbol of unreachable beauty.”
– The Guardian

Ladies of Midnight Blue are an Afro-Latin percussion & brass duet comprised of Hannabiell Sanders and Yilis del Carmen Suriel. They create a powerful and upbeat fusion of rhythms, weaving combinations of melodic percussion, brass, vocal chants, and mbira.

Testament is an acclaimed rapper, writer, composer and world record breaking human beatboxer. His innovative work includes Orpheus In The Record Shop (Opera North/Leeds Playhouse) which was broadcast on BBC Four and returns to Leeds Playhouse in October 2022.

Nishla Smith, Mendi Singh, Hannabiell Sanders and Testament are all alumni of Opera North’s Resonance programme – part of PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Partner Network supported by PPL.
