It’s a story that has enchanted generations… Worlds collide when free-spirited nun Maria is made governess in the strict household of Captain von Trapp. Through music, play and an infectious zest for life she wins the confidence of the seven von Trapp children, and even softens the Captain’s guarded heart. But beyond the warmth and humour of this beloved musical lies a powerful tale of love and standing together when it matters most.
Our live 40-piece Orchestra and the Chorus of Opera North bring extra special impact to this stage production, bringing new life to all the iconic hits you know and love, including Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things and Edelweiss.

Yes! We recommend the show is suitable for ages 8+, and child tickets are £10 off in any price band across the theatre. The total show time is just 2 hours 20 minutes (shorter than the film) including a 20-minute interval to grab an ice cream. There are matinee options and shows at the weekends and during summer holidays if you’re still worried about staying up late on a school night.
Whether you’re getting here by car or public transport, Leeds Grand Theatre is easy to reach. There are a range of nearby car parks, and we are within walking distance of Leeds Train Station and Leeds Bus Station. You can find detailed information here.

To get straight to the point, no. This is The Sound of Music, the musical, featuring our wonderful live Orchestra of 40 musicians and the Chorus of Opera North, with many of our Chorus members taking named roles.
