Woodwind Academy

13 – 14 April 2022

This event has passed.

The Opera North Woodwind Academy is a two day intensive programme for young Woodwind players to work alongside and learn from specialists from Opera North’s Education department and the professional players of the Orchestra of Opera North.

The Academy will focus on developing the skills used in ensemble playing and the special relationships and roles of the different Wind instruments in these settings. Participants will experience playing in ensembles of varying sizes and instrumentation. Carefully chosen repertoire will allow participants to look closely at what makes a great wind ensemble and to focus on developing specific playing techniques.

In addition to repertoire rehearsals, players will participate in intuitive music workshops and masterclasses which give the opportunity for peer and professional feedback.

Participants will be placed into groups according to ability and study level so each participant is appropriately challenged. Opera North continues to maintain certain measures to ensure all musicians and staff are safe. Read our  Covid Safety Measures.
